The Autumn edition of Waitrose’s ‘Health’ magazine had a short snippet on the power of flowers, especially over the last challenging year. One online florist, the article said, had logged 780,000 ‘just because’ orders and noted that the word ‘brighten’ was used on notecards 162,000 times. And a study from Rutgers University gave a bunch of flowers to 147 participants (now that’s our kind of study!) and observed that each and every one responded with a smile. Flowers, the study concluded, are ‘a positive emotion inducer’.
